The Peer Mentoring Program at GMS pairs up a sixth grade student with an 8th grade student to develop a personal connection and provide some organizational and academic help. Students meet for thirty minutes twice a month, during the sixth grade “Flex Friday” time, to work on homework tasks, clean out lockers, or play a game together. Eighth graders who volunteer for the program must maintain at least a 3.0 GPA, be a good role model, and participate in an after school training session to prepare for their role as mentor. The sixth graders are self- referred or are recommended by their teachers as being good candidates for the program based on their academic or social needs.
